Crown molding styles
These six names describe the face of the stick. The twelve catalog filters on the crown types page are how the dealer sorts the same line. Start with the face, then check the size.

Cove crown
A single smooth concave curve: the quietest, most adaptable crown.

Ogee crown
An S-curve, convex over concave. The classic traditional profile.

Stepped crown
Flat steps and small curves that cast crisp parallel shadows. Traditional or transitional.

Dentil crown
A row of small square blocks under the curve. Formal, Colonial, and Greek Revival.

Ornate crown
Molded ornament such as egg-and-dart, scroll, or floral. It makes the ceiling line a feature.

Crown with flat base
A curved crown over a flat band, so it reads taller on the wall without a site-built stack.
