Soffit cornice
Boxed crown
Boxed crown is moulded for a built-out cornice: a deeper fascia and a return that closes a soffit box, inside or at the eave.
- Best for
- Tray ceilings, exterior boxed eaves, and cornices that need a flat soffit panel.
- Scale
- Large. MD1017 is 8 1/4 in projection by 13 5/8 in height.
A boxed cornice is a hollow frame at the ceiling or eave. The crown has to turn a corner and often has to cover the edge of a soffit panel. Spectis boxed crown is drawn for that condition, with enough depth to hide the box and enough face to look intentional from the street or across a room.
MD1017 is the reference piece in this filter: 8 1/4 inches of projection, 13 5/8 inches of height, 12 feet long, sold as boxed crown molding. Check the cut sheet before you assume it replaces lookouts, fascia, and soffit. It is trim, not structure.
Large boxed profiles are where installers get in trouble with adhesive. Every bedding face and every butt joint needs the urethane adhesive named on the cut sheet. A construction adhesive that is not approved can soften the foam.

Questions about boxed crown
Can I build the box out of pine and only face it with Spectis?
Yes. That is the usual exterior detail: framing and sheathing first, then the urethane crown, bedded and fastened, then caulk and paint.
