Edge trim
Crown nosing
Crown nosing is the small nose molding that finishes the outer edge of a soffit, a mantel shelf, or the front of a cornice box.
- Best for
- Soffit lips, the front edge of a built-up cornice, and returns that need a rounded or detailed nose.
- Scale
- Small. MD1103 is 1 1/2 in by 2 3/8 in. MD1143 is 2 1/2 in by 2 3/4 in.
Nosing is not the crown that fills the wall-to-ceiling corner. It is the edge. On an exterior soffit it covers the front lip. On a layered interior cornice it trims the face of a flat panel so the plywood edge never shows.
The sizes are intentionally small. MD1103 projects 1 1/2 inches and stands 2 3/8 inches. MD1143 is 2 1/2 by 2 3/4. Both are 12-foot primed urethane sticks, cut and nailed like any other Spectis molding.
Because they are small, people under-glue them. The cut sheet rule does not change with size: PLP100 on the bedding face and on every butt. A nose that is only pinned will open at the joint the first time the soffit moves.
