Cast stone
Fossil stone crown
Fossil stone crown is urethane with a limestone-like texture, for cornices that should read as cut stone rather than as painted millwork.
- Best for
- Stone, cast-stone, and stucco exteriors, and entries that already use Spectis fossil-stone trim.
- Scale
- Mid to large. MD1161FS is 6 in projection by 9 1/4 in height.
Fossil stone is Spectis’s cast-stone surface. The SKU ends in FS. MD1161FS is a straightforward crown: 6 inches of projection, 9 1/4 inches of height, 12 feet long, with the texture across the face. It is still high-density polyurethane inside, which is why it can be cut with ordinary tools and hung without the crew you would need for real limestone.
Match the finish to the rest of the opening. A fossil-stone crown over smooth primed casing looks accidental. Spectis uses the same texture on other trims, so a cornice, a sill, and a surround can share one surface.
Do not bury the texture in elastomeric paint. If the color has to change, use a coating that leaves the pits. Seal the top so water sheds off the texture instead of into the bedding joint.

Questions about fossil stone crown
Is fossil stone heavier than smooth crown?
Not in any way that changes the install. Both are urethane. The texture is a surface, not a different core.
