Wider fascia
Crown with flat stock
Crown with flat stock adds a plain fascia band to the curved or stepped crown so the cornice face is wider without carving the whole stick.
Related style: crown with a flat base.
- Best for
- Exterior fascias, frieze-plus-crown details, and interiors that need a calm band between wall and ornament.
- Scale
- Mid. MD1015 is 4 1/4 in projection by 9 3/8 in height.
Flat stock is the unornamented board in a cornice, historically a frieze or a fascia. Combining it with crown in one urethane casting keeps the face flat and the crown true, and it removes the long glue line between a 1x and a crown.
MD1015 is 4 1/4 inches off the wall and 9 3/8 inches down, 12 feet long. The extra height is mostly flat face. That is useful when the wall is tall and a purely curved 4-inch crown would look thin, but a fully carved 9-inch crown would be too busy.
You can still add a separate dentil or a crown cap if the flat band needs a bottom or a top. The point of this profile is that the wide face and the crown are already one piece.

Questions about crown with flat stock
Should I buy loose flat stock instead?
Spectis also sells flat stock as its own molding. Buy it loose when the band has to be a custom width. Buy crown with flat stock when the published height already matches the cornice.
